Cordell W. Hull International Fellows Fund

Grants are awarded each year to support international learning, leadership, and service projects, administered by the University Honors Program.

Fund Details

Purpose:  To support individual and collaborative projects, programs, and activities for University Honors & Scholars students for research, leadership, and service abroad.

Eligibility:  Any University Honors Program undergraduate student who will have completed at least 60 semester credit hours by the end of the academic year. (The travel and subsequent report must be completed prior to graduation.)

Timetable:  Completed applications due before January 31; awards to be announced by February 15.

Value:  Individual grants ranging from $500 to $2,000; grants for collaborative projects ranging from $500 to $4,000.

Examples:

  • Independent research projects requiring access to international resources;

  • Presentation of research results at (or other participation in) international professional conferences;

  • Service projects with recognized agencies at international locations;

  • International study programs;

  • International proposals that cross disciplines;

  • International projects that combine elements of research, leadership, and service, including experiential learning opportunities.

Application:

  • Detailed narrative account of the project;

  • Detailed budget for the project, including additional funding sources;

  • All appropriate supporting materials (permissions to use research collections; applications/admissions notices for study-abroad programs; letters of acceptance/additional information for international conferences; verification of recognized service agency sponsorship for service projects; etc.);

  • Evidence of language skills necessary to carry out the project;

  • Letter of endorsement/recommendation from a UD faculty member;

  • Letter of parental/guardian assent for applicants younger than 21.

Obligations:

  • Detailed written project report;

  • Presentation at the next appropriate Stander Symposium;

  • Meeting with Mr. Cordell Hull to discuss project results, at Mr. Hull's discretion;

  • Additional promulgation of the Project results to University of Dayton students, faculty, and staff;

  • Presentation of the project results at appropriate professional conferences;

  • willingness to participate on future selection committees.

Hull
 


Cordell W. Hull earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Dayton in 1956 and was honored as a 1994 Distinguished Alumnus of the University.

Mr. Hull is Chairman and CEO of Infrastructure World. He also is a Director of Bechtel Group, Inc., a privately held, global engineering and construction company, of Fremont Inc., a San Francisco-based investment company, and of Darby Overseas, a Washington D.C.-based private investment firm specializing in emerging markets.

Mr. Hull earned his Master's degree in Civil Engineering from M.I.T. and his J.D. degree from Harvard Law School. He is currently a member of the University of Dayton Board of Trustees.
