| Testing
This information is time-sensitive. Information is
current as of November 2007.
Do not underestimate the role of your standardized
test scores. Be aware of the timeline for completing your test and
including the scores in your application materials. Most
institutions want an official score report directly from ETS. As
these scores take between 10-15 days to receive, be sure to plan
accordingly. You should take the exam early enough to allow for a
second opportunity should it prove advisable. Preparing for
standardized tests is highly recommended, even necessary. Online
practice tests are available through the LearningExpress Library
which is a resource available through the Roesch Library. The tests
available include the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT.
Many schools require submission of your GRE
scores, but it is not a universal requirement. The best introduction
to the GRE is located at
www.ets.org.
Keep in mind that the GRE General Test costs $140. That’s a lot of
bones!
Keep in mind that you may need to take a
GRE Subject Test. The
subject tests are in eight specific areas: Biology, Chemistry,
Computer Science, Literature in English, Mathematics, Physics,
Psychology, and Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology. Head’s up,
these tests are still taken at paper-based testing centers! The GRE
Subject Tests cost $130 and studying is a must. These tests are
difficult but can be critical for admission to more prestigious
graduate schools.
The best introduction to the GMAT is to visit
www.gmat.com. The GMAT costs $250. That’s even more bones!
Visit
www.lsac.org to learn more about the LSAT, and
www.aamc.org to learn more about the MCAT.
