Honors Students Symposium

Scheduled for the middle of the Winter Semester each year, the Honors Students Symposium presents the work of University Honors and Berry Scholar seniors. On March 23, 2007, the University Honors Program successfully piloted the first Honors Students Symposium, which featured presentations from the thesis projects of 48 Berry Scholar and Honors students of the class of 2007 to an audience of over 200.

The Symposium is modeled on the style of professional conferences. This event includes a presentation period, a question-and-answer session and some informal time for the presenters to mingle with future thesis writers, their advisors, faculty, members of the administration and any other interested parties.

Everyone is welcome to attend for the entire afternoon or just the sessions of particular interest. No registration is necessary to attend.

Note to Senior Symposium Presenters:  All senior thesis students must complete the Information Gathering Form by January 15 to submit their thesis information which will be included in the program for the event; this form will also help you schedule your presentation time. In addition, please review the Symposium Presentation Guidelines to help prepare for your presentation.

If you plan to prepare a poster for the Stander Symposium and want to use it for the Honors Students Symposium, please use one of the following templates and follow these guidelines for printing at the Keck Lab:

  • Use one of the prepared templates (depending on your software preference), which will help you determine font sizes and image quality control.
  • Include the thesis title, your name and the name of your advisor.
  • These templates are created at 25% of the actual size to be printed—request your poster be printed at 400%]
  • Total size of your poster should be less than 48 MB.
  • No watermarks.
  • No color background.
  • Use high-resolution images for best printing results (at least 200 dpi)--please contact Ramona Speranza if you need assistance preparing your image files.
  • Save your final layout as a high-quality-print PDF.
  • Email Professor Katherine Schoenenberger at Keck Lab to schedule your print run.
